The Pot Holes Trail starts at the parking area of Camp Sierra and to the right of Abednego cabin. The trail meanders down to the bottom of the canyon, and ends at the bottom of the canyon.
The pools are at the bottom of the Big Creek canyon where the water has dug out pot holes over the eons. The natural water slides spilling into calm pools may turn into white water if the flow is too great, making it too dangerous for swimming. The water comes from SCE’s Dam Four which is the forebay of SCE’s Power House #1 at the community of Big Creek. The trail is popular for families to day-hike for swimming and sun bathing during the summer months.
Upon returning to the trailhead, the nearby BBQ area at Camp Sierra will be available for hikers to gather after the hike and enjoy their own lunch.
Hikers must bring their own food and water and are encouraged to wear proper hiking attire, bring sun protection and bug repellent.
Jim Gregory is a fourth-generation cabin owner at Camp Sierra.
